Random Acts of Kindness Day is often a day that is overlooked. Don’t worry though, you probably aren’t the only one who has never heard of it. BUT, in order to raise awareness and encourage people to take part in events on this day, we’ve come up with a plan! To celebrate and help get the word out, we decided to interview the world’s largest organisers of Random Acts of Kindness, ‘The Kindness Offensive’. We spoke to Community Development Manager, Joanna Bevan to ask her some questions, and this is what she said!
When was ‘The Kindness Offensive’ founded and where?
The Kindness Offensive was founded in 2008 in London. Our headquarters is still in London, but we have volunteers based all over the country.
Can you tell us a bit more about ‘The Kindness Offensive’?
The Kindness Offensive is the world’s largest organiser of Random Acts of Kindness. Since our founding we’ve given away over 7 million pounds worth of goods! What started as a kitchen table conversation between friends has now grown into a very large group responsible for accomplishing some truly extraordinary things, all in the name of Kindness.
What do you do, and why do you do it?
We do a wide variety of things large and small. Amongst many things, we take people on day trips on our specially converted Kinder Bus, give away hundreds of thousands of toys, hold language classes for refugees as well as supporting many needy charities and individuals. We do this because we believe Kindness is a one-word philosophy. We believe carrying out Random Acts of Kindness can encourage others to do the same and create a kindness revolution!
How do you do it?
We do not take donations from the public, but we are lucky to be supported by many large sponsors. Some of these include; Origin Housing, XL Catlin and Travis Perkins and many more, who all make what we do possible!
If you had to give one piece of advice to someone to promote being kind, what would it be?
Never underestimate the impact that even a small act of kindness can have on someone else’s life.
Hopefully this blog has told you more about The Kindness Offensive and maybe it has even encouraged you to get involved in the future! The organisation does great work and are responsible for some of the most colourful events around! I asked Joanna what they are doing for Random Acts of Kindness Day and she said ‘We believe Kindness is not just for RAK day ours is a year round project’. So that statement there just proves exactly what they’re about and why this day should have more exposure!
